Enjoying rivertown architecture

I love the look of old river towns like Hastings and Red Wing in Minnesota, Hannibal Missouri and Le Claire Iowa.

The old home above, located in Le Claire, was repurposed into a gift shop on the main floor and basement, keeping living quarters upstairs.

We ate lunch the same day at The Crane & Pelican, an Italianate structure  built in 1851, now on the National Historic Registry.

Before being transformed into a restaurant, it was home to the family of Daniel and Sabrina Dawley for over 100 years. The Dawleys raised nine children there, just two blocks above the Mississippi.

I’d like to hear some of the adventures they experienced.
